Please review our Frequently Asked Questions section below to better get to know Peace of Home.
Q: What is assisted living?
A: When someone is no longer able to live independently at home but does not have medical needs complex enough to require a skilled nursing facility, assisted living is often the answer. Assisted Living provides the supervision and assistance needed while allowing the aging person to maintain as much independence as possible. These services are most often provided in large facilities where each resident has his/her own apartment.
Q: What is a Residential Care Home and How Does it Compare to a Larger Assisted Living Facility?
A: Residential Care Homes provide essentially the same services as the larger assisted living facilities but in a much smaller environment. Because the caregivers are responsible for far fewer residents, Residential Care Homes are able to offer more individualized attention. Our Caregivers at Peace of Home become very familiar with the aging person’s needs, preferences & routines. Especially for those with dementia, the smaller home environments are easier to navigate and less overwhelming. Larger Assisted Living Facilities often charge significantly more for residents with dementia. In our Residential Care Home, we welcome those with dementia without additional fees.
Q: Does medical insurance (such as Medicare, Humana or Medicaid) cover this type of care?
A: Our care and services are private pay. You pay us directly at the beginning of every month. You may be reimbursed by long term care insurance (a separate policy your parent may have purchased) or Veterans Benefits.
Q: Do you require long term contracts?
A: We do not. Our stays are either monthly or daily, depending on your needs.
Q: What are your rates?
A: Our monthly rates are based on level of care required (based on assessment performed by RN prior to move-in) and room chosen/available. We have a total of 4 bedrooms (two are single occupancy and two are double occupancy) Our monthly fees for board and care range from $5000-$6500/month. Medication administration up to twice daily by licensed nurses is an additional $400/month. We charge a one-time move in fee of $600.00. We offer discounts for a related couple sharing a room. (While The Dude Ranch is designed for male residents, we’re open to welcoming a female resident who is the spouse of a current resident and feels comfortable in our all-male community.)
Our daily rates are for care from a few days to a few weeks but less than a month. The daily care fee is $350.00 and includes medication administration up to twice daily by licensed nurses.
Q: Will my loved one be required to wake up, dress, dine in the dining room, and participate in scheduled activities?
A: No. We believe in keeping your loved one comfortable (just like home), so they’re free to follow their own schedule—within reason, of course!
Q: Are rooms pre-furnished? Do I have to bring my own furniture?
A: We can provide most furniture and linens or residents may provide their own furnishings.
Q: How do I return my completed forms?
A: You can email or fax us your completed Resident Forms to margaret@peaceofhomeliving.com or 504-434-4946. For immediate consideration, please call or text 504-439-1449 as new emails can sometimes go to the Spam folder and we don’t want to miss yours!
Q: What type of training does the staff have?
A: All of our caregivers participate not only in the mandated dementia and CPR training, but are trained on a variety of topics monthly that are common with aging. These include transfer, ambulation, and swallowing safety, fall and bedsore prevention, nutrition and hydration, importance of oral care, movement and socialization. They also receive training on any specific needs one of our residents may have.
